Site of the old Hispano-Muslim city called Bayra, founded by the Arabs and reconquered by the Catholic Monarchs in 1,488, until a great earthquake destroyed it on November 9, 1,518. At its summit, an authentic viewpoint with impressive views of the coast and the interior of the valley, is the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus since 1949. The remains of its castle and wall that were built by the Muslims on the remains of ancient constructions ranging from the Copper Age to Roman times. A cistern, transformed into a hermitage during the Modern Age, has been adapted as an Interpretation Center of the Medieval City of Bayra. The ruins have been declared an Archaeological Zone of Cultural Interest in 2004 by the Junta de Andalucía (BIC).
